Hi All,
Did a search for antenna alternatives, and most tend to be one you have to clamp and permanently post.
Wondering if anyone's found a more portable version of the antenna, or anything similar to the out of the box antenna offered by AirNav?

I have found the COA-1090 an excellent antenna. At the moment I have only got it mounted only 25 feet high, and I am getting contacts at 150 miles. One contact I have had was over 200 miles away, but this was over sea towards Scotland.

That's better than my 1m long Watson with a claimed 6.5 DBi gain on the top of a 17 foot pole at the top of my house on the highest point in the vicinity 475 feet above sea level fed with Westflex 103 cable...
What more would you possibly want? :-)

I liked the antenna, I destroyed it, and now just want another option.
care to elaborate on how you destroyed it?
This is a question I asked some time ago, where do you get a replacement for the "out of the box" antenna?
There were not may answers.

I only get limited reception by applying pressure from the cable to the connector, and the antenna is now highly directional.
Went with one from Scanner Master in the States. Had to get a few connections, and the cable gauge is way too thick, but the antenna is phenomenal. Great reception even indoors.
Does anybody know where you can get a straight replacement for the out of the box antenna as supplied with RB.

This may be as close as you get - it's not the RB antenna but is a Kinetic-Avionic MyDEL AS1105. $59.99 but does not include coax or plugs - I know ACS Wireless can install these for you.
Bear in mind I am in the US as is this dealer - you may search for the antenna name and find a dealer with more options locally.
I think for the cost of replacing I'd look for something a little more sturdy and with better coax/gain the RB original. Unless they will sell you one very cheap.
It does a great job but isn't the best option even for a portable. Lots of mag-mounts and other choices even among the RB Dealers.

The whip antenna that oceans777 is showing is exactly what i am running on top of the BS 1100 and find it gives very good results indeed but i am fortunate in that in am 470ft A.S.L.with the antenna on the side of the house on a 10ft pole above the apex of the roof,i will not tell you how far my poplar diagram goes, because i have an unfair advantage with my location.but YES the BS1100 works superb with the whip that is shown,not he one that comes with the BS1100,the cost of the whip is £25.hope this helps.

My RadarRama antenna is already coming apart after only 2 months and was no winner when it was new, so I am thinking of ordering the BS1100 with the AS1105.
The price seems awfully high - about $249 here in the US. Is it a solid, well made antenna? I know you are getting good results with it - I would have it connected to the Elad pre-amp. I get about 150 miles in some directions here max now but it's real spotty and now I see the antenna rusting, coming apart.
Appreciate any input you have, hard to tell about the BS1100 from the pictures.

I am interested to know if anybody has found a 'rubber duck' type antenna that works well with the RB??
I am thinking that for day trips abroad (hand luggage only) it would be a better option than taking the stock one - which I am sure some idiot BAA security bod will sooner or later see as a threat to aviation security (along with knitting needles and tweasers)

I would think the lower gain of a rubber duck antenna would make it not suitable for the RB, you could always try a telescopic whip and extend it to the correct length to match the required frequency.

Sorry in the delay in answering your question as i`ve just returned from holiday.Yes the BS1100 is well made and sturdy,i`ve had mine up for 2 years and no sign of corrosion,still with the coax i put up there with it on day one.I use the Elad pre-amp and get very good results,i`m going to put a length of westflex up shortly as the coax i`m using is the thin stuff so again with better coax i hope for better results.The BS1100 is more expensive but as with everything you only get what you pay for.Hope this helps you.

P.S I bought the high gain whip that accompanies the antenna.have not uised the whip that comes with it.
Bump.... going back to a really old query of mine.
Has anybody found antenna that can be take in ones carryon that is less 'pointy' than the supplied one??
Planning a trip out to the Far East next year and this will involve a fair bit of hand luggage only flying.
