Title: RB 2009 software MAP question
Post by: MW0CVW on April 19, 2009, 01:51:38 PM
Hi

Please can someone advise, what the purple line is,this appears to be around the equator on my world map and sometimes in other locations.

Could this be a aircraft trail, seems rather long in my opinion.?

Thanks

It is an aircraft trail, a few rare aircraft send out wrong positions momentarily (or deliberately) and this can means the aircraft jumps 1000s of miles and causes these lines.

John,Airnav support.

Thanks for the confirmation,much appreciated.

The links where very useful in confirming what the Purple trails where (Rain).

Nice to see a forum and technical support being so active.

Kind Regards

(or deliberately) I think that would be a big No No.

But it's odd that it's mainly bizjets that do it, rarely if ever, larger airliners. Perhaps just different equipment?

Great pic!

So much for my theory - still rare, though!

I have both Programs running RB and SBS, Screen shots of same Aircraft seconds apart.
N2CC

You tell me.

Interesting, I am not sure whether they both are to scale but it seems like where the SBS does not pick up the aircraft (i.e where there is gaps in the line) the RB shows a position (however we know its not correct)

As mentioned before in a few other threads we haven't found anything wrong with our decoding algorithm yet but these kind of details help to determine what its happening.

Support,

So why is RB showing jumps and SBS is not?

Support,

Would you kindly take a crack at the above question.

As we have mentioned we are unsure, where it jumps on the RB there is no position logged on the SBS. Without hacking the SBS firmware and working out what its doing we can't see. However in intial tests when this issue was first brought to light was that the decoded bits did give a position which was a long way away but nothing to indicate it was bug.

Of course the more information we can gather the better we can trace it down.

Maybe my RB is broken. Think that might be a possibility?

N2CC just passed overhead me now, jumping between 4 trails. First time i have seen such behavior.

I've logged N2CC 49 times on SBS since July 2007, most recently about a month ago, and I've never seen this phenomenon, which seems to be confined to RadarBox.

It's may be related to those spurious positions that RadarBox decodes for ATPs that don't actually have ADS-B (i.e. a non-ADS-B transmission such as a DF20/DF21 being wrongly interpreted as a position report).  I believe AirNav are investigating the latter.

DR,
You put me in my place last night and I am quite aware that you are much more of an expert in the RB than humble little me, but you give the impression of constantly having to challenge Airnav on every little tiny glitch that would much more appropriate for you to take off the forum and talk to them direct. I am not sure what the relatioship is between you and Airnav but one detects a rather unhealthy one!
