Any idea why I only get he pap pins and not the 3d aircraft like shown above?

In your 3D View settings (from the top menu, choose 3D View -> Settings), set your hardware to 'maximum' to get 3D Models. Use caution selecting 'maximum' for network flights since it could really slow your system down.
