How to set home

Evenin' all

Got my RB today and got it installed but when I set home location using lat & longitude it dumps me in middle of north sea mid-way between Shetland & Orkney. I know the positional data is correct as I checked it on sat nav then hauled off data from the net etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

You are likely entering the correct coordinates, but in the wrong format.

How are you specifying latitude and longitude ?  Change the numbers to all ones before you post if you don't want us all to know where you live :-)

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I was entering it in the format 11.1111 lat & 1.11111 lon as per the info of sat nav & web. I've been fiddling and got home changed to a dry land location round about where I live but not 100% accurate as when I zoom in there is no detail on map. Is this the fact it is Shetland or do I have to set something up yet?

Sandy - the normal map doesn't have any detail - for anywhere - you'll probably want to search theis forum for outline files, which at least can give you more accurate coastlines and airport details!

One way to set your home location is to zoom in as accurately as you can to your home location, and then right-click on the location - the last option on the right-click menu is to set as home location.

Actually the detail for Orkney and Shetland is some of the best coastline detail on the standard Airnav map!!

But yes, I reckon the best way to set a home position is to right click on the map and select "Set as Home Location".   Once you've done that, you can then refine it by changing the values in Preferences.

The centre of Shetland should be something like 60.4 and -1.2 (note the minus sign for West).

Thanks for the welcome to the forum and the advice about the outline files. I have managed to get home location set a bit more accurately using the zoom and double clicking on location then set as home location. Just trying to get the polar diagram to display now, though the antenna is just sitting on window cill. Had one live flight passing over a short time ago. It was an Eastern Airways Saab 2000, probably from Scatsta as that is the airport here that they fly workers to and fro for Sullom Voe oil terminal.
