Biscuit Tin Lid

Just wondering if sitting supplied antenna on biscuit tin lid in same position as without will be of much benefit. Will I see an increase in range or better coverage? Just asking as I am new to all this and realise there are a lot of people on here who are very knowledgeable on the subject. If it will make a difference, I will try it later on if I get a chance. Just experimenting before siting outside.

Before I invested in an external antenna, the biscuit tin lid concept of a ground plane worked for me - I found it made quite a difference.  It also gave the supplied antenna (which has a tiny base) some stability.  Still use the lid if I use my RB in the garden, with the laptop.

Just a point in passing. Yes, an increased area groundplane does help. I suggest you get a teflon covered cake tin about a foot in diameter so you get more area and no corrosion! Bi now, Roger

Thanks guys, that's what I needed to know. Now just to get the wife to look the other way while I acquire the lid off the biscuit tin.

That's a good idea Tom, but slightly flawed as I would probably eat the sweets myself (Well the good ones) Thrown out hundreds of tins over the years too!

Blast from the past, the old Biscuit tin lid as a ground plane.
not very good back in the CB/27/81 days.
But a better ground plane at 1090 Mhz
cos the waves are much shorter!.
