QF1

Hi there

I am based in Sydney and have been using SBS Basestation for a couple of years.  I am looking at also buying a Radarbox as I also travel intertstate and overseas.  I can see advantages in both products.  One thing that I have noticed is that the outlines/coastlines on the Radarbox screenshots are very "jaggy".  Are there no smoother coastlines, as these look good on the Basestation?  I would be interested in any feedback.

Cheers
Mark

Hello Mark: as the software comes, by default, with a world wide coastline database it is, unfortunately, not possible to have it more detailed since it would decrease the performance of the application. Anyway the last RadarBox 2009 software comes with a NASA Satellite download feature where you will be able to track aircraft over a real satellite layer like with Google Earth.

Thanks for your quick reply.  I have been a user of AirNav products on and off for many years, (especially ACARS related) and looking forward to using a Radarbox.  Of course, it will be interesting to compare with the Basestation.

Sincerely in our opinion both applications cannot be compared. RadarBox results from 10 years of flight tracking software development for enthusiasts and professionals.

Have a look below for a detailed comparison:

I have had a look at the detailed analysis, which is very helpful.  I certainly think that the database and filtering looks particulalry impressive on Radarbox.  However, until I receive my unit I will not be able to see the level of detail provided in the maps.  I know that I can see down to individual gates at my local airport with Basestation.

As you say, they are different products each with their own advantages, so I am happy to own both.

Thanks

I presume you are referring to outlines. RadarBox has them too, currently more than 200 developed for all over the world by our users. You just place an outline file in the outlines folder inside the application and the the airport will be drawn with high detail. Actually these outline files are the same as with Basestation so you you will be able to,as you said, see down to individual gates. Have a look at the topic below:

PS1: it is now 4 AM in Europe. In a few hours I'm sure other users will answer your question with more detail and even send you some screen shots for your area.

PS2: Hope you join our "family" soon!
