Distance nm

Hi Guy's,
I have had a flight on 'my flights ' for the past 10 minutes or so.  American reg, Gulfstream Aerospace at FL 400. 

The info is telling me that it is at a distance of 2490nm over the Atlantic Ocean, how could I be picking this up or is it a glitch of some sort?

It's a known problem, sometime aircraft transmit the wrong position.  Do a search for "Purple Rain" on this forum.

I noticed on one of your previous posts to Theo that you use planeplotter.  I have downloaded the program, recording flights OK but cannot get my head around the chart function!

I was trying to link into the google cockpit view but I cannot even get that far...any advice appreciated

What do you have set for your home coordinates ?    (I don't mean the exact values, just approximately).

Well bang goes my theory (that 2490nm might work out to be the distance between your location and lat/lon N 00 00 W 00 00) - it isn't !

Having been born in the metropolis of Ireland it looks a bit out to me. That's an interesting rock formation though with the hump in the middle surrounded by a raised ring. Is it man-made? And is it rock or earth?

Sounds just like the guy I got yesterday morning, also Gulfstream, altitude unknown. From memory it was something like N34????.

He first appeared over Argentina, jumped to Brazil, then shot off north again to re-appear somewhere near Bermuda before finally pitching up in Warwickshire.  He stooged around for a while on a south east course then vanished. (All this from memory of course, but not a mile from the truth)

If this is an experimental US plane, they're really on to something!!! Ho ho.

Mark07, best advise I can give for Planeplotter is to:
1. Run the Setup Wizard on the Help menu.
2. Refer to the Wiki - http://planeplotter.pbwiki.com/
3. Any further questions, best to ask on the Planeplotter forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/planeplotter/

And yes, you can use Planeplotter to feed into Google Maps - here's an example I created for Theo earlier today:

That's fighting talk to a Jackeen! Seriously though, I'm thinking of settling down in the Cork/Waterford area in a couple of years time when my wife retires.
