Hi all,

Below is a my polar diagram from EGNX today using the supplied aerial on the car roof

It's actually quite amazing just how good the standard antenna is if you can get it out in the open.  I spent ages putting my BS1100 external antenna up, then tried the standard antenna on the car roof away from the houses - I got better coverage to the south with the antenna on the car!

Hi Allocater,

I've been toying with the idea of an external aerial as my coverage to the East & NE is not brilliant. I'm off this week so I'm going to experiment with trying to get my aerial higher.

John,

All you have to do is to get a good ratio between the height increase (good) and cable length (bad).  Jut putting the standard antenna on the outside of the Velux roof window gave me a vast improvement - about the same as the BS1100 with 10m of fairly average co-ax :-0

Allocator,

I'm mounting my aerial on a steel pole about 25mm square thats conveniantly stuck to the wall outside my window. I'm not using the disc supplied as a ground plane. If I could attach this would I get any significant increase as I am not really sure of the effects of a ground plane or how it works?

hi john
stuck my standard aerial to a metal bird feeder while waiting for new wimo kit didnt use the disk for a ground plane the result was great considering it was 5 ft from the building and about 5ft up have a look at the newcastle screenshoot i posted yesterday showing with the wimo with pre amp at 35ft and the supplied set up as just stated
woul sy you dont need the disk if its a fair sized lump of metal on your wall
cheers paul

Hi all,

Does that mean the ideal ground plane is a car roof? Certainly the best polar diagram i've seen!!

Still waiting for my RBox, local supplier ran out!! :o(
Was 32 NM SSW of YPPH.......where the sun shines.
Previously 31NM NNW of EGCC....where it didn't shine!
Now back near EGCC, Oh, how I miss the sun!!!
