Query regarding updating database explorer

Hi everyone,

Can anyone help with this small query I have.

I have been on RB for a week or so now but cannot find an answer on the forum to this question:-

If I update my database with the details of a new aircraft or an amendment etc does this only update my own database or the central database as well.

I have tracked a number of aircraft which are displaying an old or out of date registration and operator.

I have changed the details within database explorer but what does what actually change.

How then does new data get to my database.
For eg. Ryanair take receipt of a new 737-800, and hexcode for the aircraft is say400xxx, Who updates that 400xxx is aircraft EI-EBH. Is that downloaded from the server to my database??

I'll keep this short :-)

- The Gatwick Aviation Society (GAS) maintain an online database for free - nice people manually updating the database.  They try very hard, but it's never going to be 100% accurate for obvious reasons :-)

- RadarBox comes with a huge database built in, just in case you never connect to the internet. This is the NavData.db3 main database.

- Run RB without an internet connection and it's the data in DataBase.db3 you will see.  This data is also written to the separate MyLog.db3 database for when you use MyLog

- Of course, the NavData.db3 database was out of date the moment it was released - for just the same reason as the GAS database is never up to date - things change!

- If the aircraft details are not in NavData.db3 then the aircraft data line will be missing most of the details.

- If you run RB connected to the Internet and the aircraft details are missing from NavData.db3, and they are in the AirNav Server database - which is regularly populated by the GAS database - then NavData.db3 will be auto-populated and the aircraft details will appear.

- Disconnect from the internet, and all those new records in NavData.db3 are still available to you :-)

Acutally mate thats pretty clear!!!

I was concerned that any tom dick or harry could update the main server database.

its good to know we are all in safe hands :-)

My pleasure - there's no such thing as a silly question here as we're all still learning.

There is always room for improvement in any database and auto-populate system, but it can get very complicated.  A NavData.db3 aircraft record won't get overwritten if data is already present - a good thing if you've updated the record manually yourself, not good if the data is incorrect.  People have suggested all sorts of "rules" for the auto-populate, all good ideas, but a programmers nightmare!

All in all, it works very well :-)

What happen if an airline is sold but retains the same HexCode?
Take my example with G-MIDK / G-OZBN - are we saying that my NavData.db3 file will be not be updated - which meas each user does his own datafile??

If there is a valid (although possibly out of date) record in NavData.bd3, it will not be overwritten by auto-populate.

You have 2 choices - first you can manually update the record using Database Explorer - or, providing that the GAS database has been updated, you can delete the record in NavData.db3 and wait for it to auto-populate next time the aircraft is picked up.  I prefer the manual update route.

As an aside, if the aircraft is showing a valid Flight ID (callsign) then the company logo will always be correct, as this is displayed based on the Flight ID.  However, the company name in your example will be wrong until you update NavData.

I prefer the manual update but when i put the new info in (airline  or company)
and i am connected to; the internet when the plane is picked up the next time
my info is overwriten this is in the navdata.bd3 database ie ac changes to
a blank or untitled
what have i got wrong
PS is there a fix for M-XXXX being marked as RAF

I don't think you have nothing wrong - I have come across this myself, were details have been changed in Navdata file. There is people who say this do not happen, but it does.
