Should think so the heat haze has really spoilt that excellent picture :-)

Cheers Malc, it's not too bad a bit further down but in the upper FL300s it's really knocking them out at the moment. Pity everything else is Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Easyjet. All the decent stuff seems to route POL.

What are you using to get such good pictures at FL300?

Operation Joint Warrior, starting 11th May.  Now got a New Zealand Air Force B757 at FL130 into Kinloss approach (KIW845).  Looks like being a great 2 weeks of action.

I'd like to know that too Chris, nothing to do with the wee nurse who lives about a mile away & who's bedroom window is directly in my line of sight...

Seriously though I would like to know as they are good pictures.

@tarbat thanks yes of course that starts early next week doesn't it? as you say there should be some great stuff popping up on the box. I'll have the camera pointing at the sky when possible for certain.

@malc: Canon EOS40D with EF100-400 IS lens. It's good for the big aircraft up to FL400 at near overhead transit but smaller aircraft closer to the horizon are digiscope territory.

Lots of US military aircraft here in Bogotá; but most of them send a Mode S ID beginning with AE (e.g. AE1539, received today) and "Allied1" as the flight number. How do I find out what aircraft type these are?  (Probably transports; but who knows...)

Today AE116E was (unusually) sending a little more than the Mode S ID.  It sent "84-0179" as its registration.  No idea how to determine what it was.
