Exercise Joint Warrior 2009

Lots of military aircraft around over the next two weeks - 11th - 22nd May. Thought it was worth having a discussion topic for the 2 weeks.

11/5/09 - 22/5/09 Exercise JOINT WARRIOR 09-1 UK-Wide.

JOINT WARRIOR 09-1 is a major exercise involving all three UK services and 12 invited NATO and Allied Nations.

The exercise is one of the major training opportunities for UK Forces in 2009, and will provide joint collective training and pre-deployment training in a multi-threat environment.

Up to 85 aircraft, 22 ships, 3 submarines and a number of Land Units will operate from various bases in the UK and abroad.

The main exercise areas will be Wales, Scotland and the border regions of England, with maritime operations being conducted off the north and west coast of Scotland.

Flying operations will generate about 100 sorties each day (Monday to Friday).

The exercise scenario involves three sovereign nations, disuputed territory and a state-sponsored terrorist movement.

The scenario will develop over the two-week period allowing Force Integration Training during a period of tension, before simulated war-fighting operations.

Air operations will include Composite Air Operations, Close Air Support and Electronic Warfare Training.

As part of JOINT WARRIOR, up to 500 RAF personnel will deploy to RAF Kinloss to set up and operate an Air Deployed Operating Base (DOB) in a simulated austere location.

When the DOB is complete, it will accommodate a detachment of fast-jet aircraft and supporting infrastructure.

This aspect of the exercise provides training for an Expeditionary Air Wing in short-notice contingency operations.

You might have better luck doing some searches on some military yahoogroups.
like RadarMonitors. Just do a search for "Death" ....etc

Another useful resource for military signtings is http://www.live-military-mode-s.eu/ However, whilst all these aircraft have been "seen" over the last couple of days, none have been positively identified.

Today has started to get active in my area, with FR Aviation being particularly busy with several of their aircraft in the air - G-FRAH, G-FRAJ, G-FRAO, G-FRAT, G-FRAU

Not sure if it is related but I had 12 military hits today. That is a lot for my neck of the woods. 6 US - 4 Canada - 2 German

Yes, lots flying today. A total of 5 FR Aviation FA20s in the air this morning providing targeting.

Get the FRA planes quite regular as Im about 5 miles from Teesside (oops sorry Durham Tees Valley) on the approach. Went on one a few years ago, very interesting to see them using an AOR3000 scanner and Sony MidiDisc recorder for the ECM training.

Tarbat, One for you I think. I live near the cliffs of Dover and there has just been a Air Sea Rescue chopper hovering down by the cliffs and was too low to get reg,I put the RB on and it wasn,t showing on my screen yet there was a chopper "G-SSXX" landed nearby and that was on. Is there a way to get these Air Sea Rescue choppers on screen because we get a few around as you might gather. Colin Hall.

These are all F-15s from Lakenheath. You will not get a serial tie-up for these aircraft as they swap hex codes all the time.
