Messages/sec: maximum limit?

Does anyone have any idea about how big the message/sec number can get?

I was out with my RB this morning, and at one point I saw the messages/sec counter indicating in excess of 580.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen significantly greater numbers?

If the 1090MHz frequency were filled with maximum length non-overlapping messages the theoretical channel capacity is 8928 per second, but that would mean about 8Mbps down the USB cable which is likely to be well above the capability of the PIC in the RB box.

Our record with intensive tests in London (when the RadarBox project started) is of 1300 msgs/sec (at around 10 AM).

Few weeks ago I had a max. of approx. 1200 msgs/sec, my max. now in SBS-meter is 890.

The msg/sec meter within RB is always higher as the SBS-meter, but the sbs program gives a nice overview anyway

SBS-1 Meter averages over a 5 second period, so it doesn't see the peak value that RB reports.

The SBS-1 Chart program averages over 1 minute intervals, so the peak value is reduced again.

It can give you an idea of the variation in messages over time, but the numbers are relative rather than absolute.
