How do you determine the difference between a decoding error and a miscode?
You asked me that question back as we started with the db updaters volunteer team and db update request threads. Must be two years ago or so...

But concidering my own swiss cheese memory, here we go again:

confirmed decoding error:

Standard procedure for all unknown airframes with flight id:
- unknown airframe with flight id received.
- checking if flight id is in the list with other known airframe
If yes:
- check reception time of known and unknown airframe
- if position data of unknown and known airframe is available compare both
- using libhomeradar and flightradar24 to see if known aiframe has performed that flight today
- checking the difference in hex code

If reception time is nearly identical and position data is almost in on one line and the known airframe has according the the mentioned two sites performed this flight, I concider the unknown airframe a confirmed decoding error especially if the hex differs in only one digit.

In all other cases I would state, that I can't tell if it's a decoding error or a miscoded airframe. Especially if I haven't received the correct hex for a while, but the new hex several times in the past few weeks.

Of course it presumes, that the pilot hasn't deliberately entered a misleading flight id.

Addition: A decoding error can also be a mixup error, which means, the the flight id was falsely assigned to the wrong hex code during data processing.

With V4 I had about five to 10 decoding/mixup errors per day. Since V5 this has changed to the better. Haven't had any decoding errors in the Logs I've investigated. Don't know if and how many were in the unknwons that were posted in the unprocessed copy and paste mode.

Nothing has changed in this respect from the previous V5 versions.  Mode-s equipped aircraft have parity checking carried out and if they dont check out they are not displayed.  As this cannot be done with non mode-s equipped aircraft two consecutive messages with the same callsign/squawk combination are required before the aircraft is allowed to be displayed in the grid.  We tried with up to five consecutive messages but while it cut down on the number of wrong callsings displays etc it meant a lot more aircraft wouldnt show.

I presume you have the Callsign and Squawk validation box ticked in the Preferences/Radarbox tab

Hi Alan, I just had a few interesting ground returns show up.  Never seen them before here.
No Routes populating either....
TVS109P and TVS110P
Can you find any information about them?

Hi Alan, I have another plane with no silouette/aircraft type.

SWG510  Mode-S C034BA

I know you mentioned if I click on the aircraft it would populate...I did click on it and none of the information populated?  Any ideas?

Also, SWG773  No Route

FDX780  No Route

Morning Alan,

This appears to be a new service as I have not seen this routing before. It is perhaps a Winter only consolidation of flights :

BEE1717 : EGHI-LEAL-LEMG

According to the AENA site the return flight is BEE1718 and goes direct from LEMG-EGTE. No mention of EGHI on the return !
