Failure to create map at startup

Help. Has anyone had the problem at startup where the aircraft table appears and aircraft are listed as normal but the display map fails to be created?
Last night I had a glitch on the computer and had to switch off to regain control. When this has happened before Air Nav booted up OK and the local map of the UK was created and planes plotted onto it. Last night whilst everything else seemed to work the map failed to be created. Cleaning up the registry and repeat booting up of the computer failed to help.
Is this a case for re-installation?
