" I wish all light aircraft would fit mode S"
I have a share in a D-Reg B209 Monsun,we fitted a Trig mode S six months ago ,including the fitting and paperwork it came to £2500 !.Contary to popular opinion most flyers at the light end are not wealthy and tend to fly very cheaply (typicaly the casts are £90 per month and £50 to £60 per hour for a share in a small aircraft) We chose to fit mode S because our old Mode C had stopped reporting altitude (which makes ATC nervous when you are close to class A airspace) We like to fly to europe and some european countries that dont have a history of light aviation try to restrict non mode S aircraft.
Additionally some light aircraft are unable to be fitted with ModeS due lack of power supply or space or weight constaints.
As time goes by more pressure will be applied by the airlines who wish to fly to smaller airfields without class A airspace to have more aircraft fitted because it is compatable with thier TCAS.This will restrict the variety of GA you see now

Hi Terry,

Yes, saw it overhead Compton westbound an hour earlier. This is my second recent USAF military C37 (Gulf 5) using full ADSB and hence plotted on the radar screen - saw 99-0402 c/s SAM3943 also westbound on 27/12.

Rod,

Are you sure he was transmitting full ADS-B, there is not enough info in your picture to show that. I track these WC/RC-135s a lot and have never seen one give positional data. Normally it's just the smaller comms aircraft of the USAF that transmit positional data.

On a related topic, do you know why the E-6 Mercuries regularly do use full ADS-B - it's very nice of them, but it goes against convention.

No, I have no idea why the Mercuries do that. Considering their role I'm amazed that they do. Some of the othe USN aircraft do too e.g. the C-9 Nightingales.

I had a C-17 in my area RCH3113 a few minutes ago which has disappeared. London Mil have been calling him on the Guard freq but he is not replying. I've heard MARHAM56 calling him too.

5V-TGE has been re-registered TZ-TAC and is now with the Government of Mali. It is still using the wrong mode S code from its time in Togo.  You may with to update your Navdata log.

Still a great catch with its new identity though.
